Whilst running a multiple event services business I get asked a lot of questions from clients wanting to know what are the best services to choose for their wedding/event. With the revelation of the Photo Booth; it is almost as important as having a DJ for any party. Now we have been hit again – this time the Magic Selfie Mirror – although new to the market, it has already had huge interest in the wedding scene. Question is, which would you rather? And is there much difference in either? Well I’m here to give you a helping hand. Let’s start with the Photo Booth…
The Photo booth was surprisingly invented back in 1889 but wasn’t until 1925 it really appeared used in shops for the general public. Then at around 2005 it was re-created to be hired out for fun purposes. It was genius. Who doesn’t love getting into a box with your friends and family to utilise all different types of silly props in order to capture the goofiest picture…a picture which comes out instantly for you to keep?! Now with many other features like green screen, filters and social media uploading! What I like about a booth is that it is more personal to the people you are wanting a picture with, after all that’s the main reason people can’t resist having a go (even people who HATE photos). This is because you are away from the crowd and hidden privately to do what you please. Having an enclosed space also means a nice clear bright picture as well as not getting bothered by any one ruining your shots behind you. It also means you have the green screen option which enables you to choose any background you please! You maybe at your cousins wedding but you could come out with snaps of you and your friends in Egypt! There are one or two things to consider on choosing a booth though, regardless of the many benefits it has it does have a limit of how many people it can hold which is normally up to 4 or 5, this also means there isn’t a lot of space to do any impressive ‘action shots’. It also takes a while to set up so choosing the right provider is important as you may not want some man bending down with his pants half way down his bum putting together a booth in the middle of your wedding. Obviously this should be easily avoided if good communication is made with your supplier. Weddings and events are all about having the right decor and feel for what you want. When it comes to booths there are now many to choose from which all look great and appealing, but there are also cheaper alternatives like blow up ones. This is another choice to consider as once set up you may find it a bit of an eye sore!
Now the Magic Selfie Mirror…
When I first saw the mirror I knew it would grow in popularity very quickly. Not something I was too pleased about as I knew I would have to invest in getting one (they are not cheap, cough). Having said that I’m glad I did, I was a bit negative at first thinking this is just a Photo Booth without the enclosure, what’s fun about that! But how wrong was I. Firstly it looks good, depending on who’s in the reflection of course! It has a traditional mirror frame which fits in perfectly with any wedding theme. It also only takes tenth of the time to set up than a booth does so no major risk of having to wait long for it to be ready or people loading in and out of your wedding/event. But for me the main highlight is its personality! The mirror comes with some great animated software and this is where you can really see its potential in succeeding the success of the booth. It talks to you, teases you and makes you laugh. It also gives you commands and orders you to pose in different ways which is serious good fun. Although it has no green screen; it is more interactive than a booth as its enables you to sign your name on each photo giving it that personal touch.
Overall I love both, price wise ranges depending on your supplier, my businesses hire the booths out at a little more cost as it is more work to set up and pack down, although as the selfie mirror is a new product, most hire companies are making it quite a bit more expensive than the booth. Whatever you choose I hope this helped you a little to decide, and I know you will not be disappointed with having either products for your event!
